Somme, France

As we were driving north through France we kept catching glipses of memorials stood on high ground and visible for many miles. We decided to make a detour and visit one. They looked impressive from a distance but up close they left you speechless. This particular memorial was for men who where never found. Each of those white faces at the base of the memorial had 1000 names on it; Tor and I calculated 86 thousand names in all.
